How You Can Help Us

Become a sponsor

The ongoing and generous support of donors and corporate sponsors is paramount to the vitality and strength of the Durham Youth Orchestra, ensuring its long-term sustainability.

Your investment in the arts through the Durham Youth Orchestra promotes the health and cultural well being of our youth and community. With your support, the Durham Youth Orchestra facilitates the growth and development of young musicians enabling them to achieve new levels of artistic expression while making a positive contribution to society.

Established in 1993, the Durham Youth Orchestra provides young musicians the enriching and unique experience of performing classical music, fostering their artistic and musical skills in an orchestral setting.

Each season, the Durham Youth Orchestra performs three concerts in addition to educational concerts presented to Durham area students and community groups. Members gain valuable performing experience and, in turn, contribute to the cultural enrichment of their community. Additionally, members receive coaching sessions given by highly accomplished professional musicians hailing from the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Conservatory of Music, the Ontario Philharmonic Orchestra and the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra.

The results of your support speak for themselves. Many Durham Youth Orchestra alumni have gone on to study music in university and beyond. Tim Watson performed with the University of Toronto Orchestra as well as the National Youth Orchestra. Meagan Turner currently studies at the Julliard School of Music in New York City. Many orchestra alumni often return to give back and inspire current members through tutoring and playing with them in concerts and other performances. Current members are role models and tutors for our Junior Strings members.

As you can very well imagine, keeping the Durham Youth Orchestra running requires many hours of donated time by volunteers, parents and neighbourhood supporters alike. Your financial support is key to the orchestra’s success and ability to provide the programming and opportunities for its youth members.
